Artist of the Month

Local glass artist Fred Berg is a retired mechanical engineer who lives in Cushing and works with fused glass. His works include multi-colored bowls, plates, cheese boards and Christmas ornaments that are both artistic and functional. He became inspired at a fused glass session during an Elderhostel visit in Williamstown, Mass. He has studied at the Corning Glass Studio, taking classes in lampworking, cold finishing, glass blowing, glass carving, sandblasting and kiln casting of glass. Fred uses his technical engineering background and design ability to transform glass into an art form. His work is shown at Maine Craft Fairs, Arts in the Barn, Cushing, and the Thomaston Cafe. He conducts classes for all ages. He creates his own pieces and accepts work on commission.
